Position Summary:

The Group Tax Director leads the Corporate, Income Tax and Indirect Tax affairs of the Group. Managing a global tax team of 9 including 4 direct reports in UK, US and Hong Kong and maintaining a broad knowledge base across all taxes in all territories, the Group Tax Director is responsible for ensuring that the two divisions are appropriately advised and work closely with Finance, Treasury, Investor Relations and Legal Departments. The roles requires strong communication skills with an ability to simplify difficult concepts in order to produce and execute appropriate tax effective strategies.

Responsibilities of Position:

  • Responsible for development of tax strategy, tax policies and tax planning for the Group
  • Work with divisional finance teams to investigate and resolve tax queries across the Group, working with the stakeholders at all levels of the organisation to understand and address tax risk and take responsibility for the implementation of robust, practical solutions
  • Lead and direct foreign tax controversies and tax audits, engage with local tax authorities, co-ordinate external adviser submissions and negotiate settlements where appropriate
  • Responsible for calculation, timing and funding of all intra Group dividends for profit and cash repatriation purposes then coordinating Legal, Treasury and Finance to execute
  • Structuring of all internal debt having considered local thin capital and debt / equity rules and foreign exchange considerations
  • Management of year end and half year Tax Reporting under IFRS, review of supporting schedules for the annual and half year reporting, identification and management of tax risks with delivery and explanation of the Effective Tax Rate, Uncertain Tax Positions and other tax related results to the Audit & Risk Committee
  • Supervise direct reports in Tax Reporting, Transfer Pricing, VAT and UK compliance
  • Oversee completion of month-end Group tax charge calculation activities, e.g. month end tax journals, tax cash flow review etc
  • Maintain and control tax cash reporting as part of forecasting and via a monthly actual versus forecast reconciliation and on actual basis authorise all tax cash payments
  • Analysis and review of current and deferred tax balances as part of the budget and forecast for tax charge and tax cash payments
  • Manage ongoing UK relationship and risk rating with the HMRC CCM Team by leading the UK HMRC Business Risk Review, managing the Senior Accounting Officer Reporting process, drafting the published Tax Strategy for the Board of Directors and participating in the Corporate Criminal Offence reporting framework
  • Identify and execute R&D, Special Economic Zones and other incentive claims globally
  • Management and development of existing tax controls as part of the UK’s new financial control framework
  • Provide tax support and advice in relation to mergers & acquisitions, new business initiatives, business restructuring
  • Manage the UK tax and social security filings and management of non-UK resident executives including Section 690 applications and social security certificates of coverage
  • Advise internally on specific Employment Related Securities matters and direct global reporting
  • Responsibility and control of tax and social security aspects on all expatriate tax assignments to ensure that expatriates are appropriately registered and compliant in all territories
  • Management of the VAT function, identification of VAT compliance risks for manufacturing entities. Ensure EU VAT and global indirect registrations achieve VAT recoveries and consider alternative business flows to minimise VAT or Customs exposures
  • Select, negotiate, manage and maintain a wide range of global external advisory relationships
  • Carry out any ad hoc tax analysis and tax project work as required by VP Risk & Global Controller and Group CFO

Experience Requirement:

  • Experienced in IFRS tax reporting and compliance management across all direct and indirect taxes in global jurisdictions
  • Must be comfortable making decisions and leading the team
  • Be flexible when necessary and see the bigger Group picture
  • Must be able to assess risks and provide a practical focus
  • ACA or equivalent with 10+yrs PQE
  • Highly numerate with strong tax accounting and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent stakeholder management and engagement across a variety of levels
  • Ability to manage team effectively and inspire higher potential of team members
  • Experience of working effectively with different cultures

Licensing or Special Certification Requirements:

  1. Driver’s license
  2. Valid passport

Physical Requirements:

  1. 10-20% domestic and international travel required
  2. Ability to work at a personal computer, or be on manufacturing floors, for extended periods of time

  2. Occasionally lifts and carries up to 15 pounds

Education:

Education Requirement:

  • Tax qualification: CTA
  • Certification required in one of following: ACA, CPA, CIA, CRMA, CFE, CMA
